THE TASHMOO LEGACY
The Tashmoo was a prominent passenger steamer built in 1900 by the Detroit Shipbuilding Company and was known for its stylish design and spacious interiors. We wanted a name for our distillery that had some reverance and a tie to the local community and tradition. Our idea was to style our tasting room as a 1920's speakeasy with a feel for how the lounge on the Tashmoo would be.
Built by the Detroit Dry Dock Company, the ship featured a striking white hull and was equipped with modern amenities for its time, including spacious lounges and a dining area, attracting both vacationers and business travelers. The Tashmoo became a beloved symbol of summertime leisure on the Great Lakes, offering scenic views and a comfortable journey. However, after decades of service, it was eventually retired in the mid-1930s and later sank in 1939 while being towed to a scrapyard, marking the end of an era for this iconic vessel. Today, the Tashmoo is remembered fondly by those who experienced its charm and grandeur during its years of operation.
